He accomplished the remarkable feat of learning to perform everyday tasks with his feet, such as eating, writing, typing, driving, playing the guitar, and even changing car brakes. The Stutzmans’ philosophy allowed him to explore his abilities by trying almost anything on his own.
In September 2011, Matt broke the World Record for the Longest Accurate Archery Shot from 218 yards. During the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, Matt achieved the silver medal through a series of dramatic come-from-behind victories. He set two new national records at the 2012 Paralympic Team Trials, narrowly missing a world record.

Matt attributes his unique approach to archery to his inability to use prosthetics comfortably and effectively. Shooting with his legs provides stability, and his life experiences have ingrained in him patience and tenacity—valuable traits for any athlete.

Outside of archery, Matt is a devoted family man, married to Amber Schaller and father to three boys: Carter, Cameron, and Alex. His inspiring personal story and extraordinary abilities with a bow and arrow have captured media attention globally. As a natural public speaker, he engages diverse audiences with humor and demonstrations of his skills, leaving them inspired and believing in the possibilities.
